It is great, but not enough color and contrast like there is with Ravels Orchestration of this great piece.

Well, Mussorgsky was sometimes a little over expectant of the piano. FF was maybe his attempt at making an old style piano sound louder than modern day ones can.
In 'The Old Castle' he writes a crescendo on a held piano note.

hmm.. Bydlo should be pretty heavy, "f" or "ff". This is too soft...

The first (I think) oboist and the leftmost violinist get really into it.
They're all over the place. |
